Joey’s new site

May 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Here is Joey’s new site. I decided to give him his own page so all the family would have one easy place to go to see pictures, videos, and updates on little JW.

Please note that you can e-mail Joey at josephwalkerkeane at gmail dot com. When he gets old enough to read he’ll appreciate it!

Joey’s first few days

March 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Joseph Walker K. was born at 12:17 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008. Nothing in this world could have prepared me for everything that has happened since then.

We are so blessed. So happy. So exhausted.

I would love to write an entry about all of the wonderful things that have happened in the past 5 days but Joey would prefer that I play airplane with him. In the meantime, enjoy these videos.

Joey’s first headphone listen

January 14th, 2008 · No Comments

We put the headphones on Melissa’s tummy last night and let him listen to a couple songs before we finished reading Lafcadio to him (which is sort of a depressing book, as it turns out). The songs were both by XTC: Making Plans for Nigel and Senses Working Overtime. We don’t know if he was kicking out of joy or fear but we certainly got a reaction! I am looking forward to playing all kinds of music for him in the womb… probably more light classical forthcoming. :)

5 Dangerous Things You Should Let Your Kids Do

January 14th, 2008 · No Comments

TED Talks

TED Talk by Gever Tulley

Found this to be an interesting 9 minute video. Basically, the guy says that kids learn by doing (kinesthetic learners, as we all are) and that sheltering them too much is harmful to their development.

The 5 things (really 6) are:

  • Play with fire
  • Own a pocket knife
  • Throw a spear
  • Deconstruct an appliance
  • Break the DMCA
  • Drive a car

Interesting theory on growing an independent and self-sufficient child.

2008 - The Year Our Lives Change Forever

JWK’s Crib

This is where our soon-to-be born baby boy, Joseph Walker, will be sleeping. The crib was a Christmas gift from my mother (Nina, her chosen grandmother-name) and the Classic Pooh bedding was a Christmas gift from my sister, Rhonda.

I assembled the crib over the Christmas break and now it sits in the nursery, empty and waiting for an occupant. Joey is supposed to enter this world at the end of March. Having his bed set up and organizing the nursery really makes everything seem more real. It’s actually going to happen! It takes my breath away. Our lives will never be the same. We are going to be parents.

We are going to have a son.

Melissa’s belly seems to be getting bigger by the week now and JW is taking advantage of the extra room. Last night he was kicking and pounding up a storm. He likes to wait until his mommy is laying down to sleep to really turn on the engines. He’s going to be a night-owl like his daddy.

I am going to be a daddy!
